First, allow me to introduce myself and my philosophy of care as a manual therapist. As a Registered Massage Therapist and Manual Osteopath, I have a unique approach to manual therapy. I want to ensure you understand what my manual therapy entails and what is does not.
I do not treat relaxation massage. My treatments are focused on correcting dysfunction that contributes to chronic pain. On your first, I will perform a thorough assessment for dysfunction and establish your treatment goals. Over my 30-year career, I have accumulated many tools and techniques that assist in our goal to unwind your pain and dysfunction.
During our time together, I will educate you on our plan, what is happening with your tissues and body as we change your posture and how your body functions. I will ensure that you fully understand the process, techniques, and tools needed to unwind the years of chronic tension and weak nerve messaging.
Techniques that may be used:
Swedish Massage
Matrix Repatterning
Cranial Sacral
Visceral Manipulation
Joint Mobilization
ReKinetics
Manual Lymphatic Drainagee
Meridian Release
Energetics Release
Kinesiology Taping
Some tools I may use:
Radial Shockwave
Low-Level Laser
Ultrasound
Cupping
Kinesiology Taping
Duration of the Therapy
Treatments will range from 60-90 minutes. It is unusual for a session to be finished within 60 minutes, as some sessions require time to unwind the layers of restrictions and blockages.
How many sessions will you need?
Each person is very different. We take into account how many layers of tension you have, what your treatment goals are and the speed at which we can unwind your pain. The average is 3-12 sessions.
What about maintenance?
As with anything you want to preserve, there is a level of maintenance to ensure you do not end back up in pain. Each person is different on what they will require. It will depend on what created your dysfunction and what is still contributing to it, such as working, lifting, sports/exercise and overuse.
Maintenance could be monthly massages, yoga, exercises, acupuncture, chiropractor, etc. You will learn about your body and energy to make the best choices on what your long term manual care will be. The treatments used to clean up the scar tissue, tight fascia, or stuck blood flow are rarely used to prevent them from returning.
Some clients like to check in to continue unwinding their layers as they achieve more physical goals. Some have jobs or hobbies that push the limits, and as you begin to feel better, you have better movement and proprioception, which can make you want to do more. We find the right balance for you to ensure your long-term maintenance.
